Clinical Intern
Sharon Grainer
As a therapist, I bring warmth, empathy, and an authentic sense of humor deeply rooted in my Canadian identity, enriched by extensive experiences living, working, and traveling internationally across diverse cultures.
My practice emphasizes genuinely meeting individuals where they are, celebrating their unique identities, and passionately fostering a profound sense of belonging. My approach incorporates a nuanced understanding of life’s complexities, empowering clients to engage with their values courageously and navigate meaningful change. Drawing on a rich background as a chaplain in trauma and oncology settings and years of pastoral care in hospitals, hospices, rehabilitation centers, nursing homes, and community settings, I offer sensitive, compassionate support tailored to individuals coping with anxiety, depression, grief, illness, or significant life transitions. My expertise in crisis management, conflict resolution, and interpersonal communication enables me to navigate complex emotional landscapes effectively. As a breast cancer survivor actively involved in the community through advocacy, education, and celebration, I possess a deep understanding of the resilience needed in healing journeys. My longstanding allyship with the LGBTQIA2+ community includes leading initiatives to strengthen inclusive and affirming environments.
I am currently completing my final year at The University of Chicago: Crown Family School of Social Work, Policy, and Practice.
Committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion, I strive to create safe, therapeutic spaces where all identities feel seen, heard, celebrated, and affirmed. Clients who benefit most from my practice seek a collaborative, culturally responsive environment filled with genuine warmth, thoughtful dialogue, and unwavering respect.
