Hi, I'm Laura. I want you to know a little bit about me so you can decide if working together will help you reach your goals for therapy. Most importantly, I think it's important to know that I am not an expert. I am a person seeking mental wellness, just like you. I don't have all the answers, but that's not what therapy is anyway. I'm here to listen, to motivate, to teach, and to be a safe space for you to grow as you work towards wellness.
My own experience of having Major Depression and navigating mental health systems heavily influences my work as a therapist. I know it's hard to ask for and accept help. I know that change is difficult. Because of this, I approach my clients with a lot of empathy and patience. In sessions, I draw from different theories and modalities, or "ways" of "doing therapy," such as DBT, CBT, ACT, Motivational Interviewing and Systems Theory.
Together we'll identify your goals for therapy and how we'll get there. It's a road map that we will revisit and revise. My hope is that you will feel that you are making progress and that I am helping you towards your goals, self-acceptance, and fulfillment.
On a personal level, I am a mother and wife. I love to cook and bake. The best ways for me to take care of myself are going for walks and spending time in nature. I also find a lot of comfort in a cup of coffee. I am most proud of having trained for and run the Chicago Marathon, because more than anything, it allowed me to practice mindfulness and combat the voices telling me it was not possible.
I would be honored to walk alongside you as your therapist.
