Are you struggling with poor self-worth and low self-esteem? Feeling as if you don’t even know who you are and what’s important anymore? Like something is wrong but you just can’t place it? Are you overly critical of yourself or feel guilty all the time? Do you feel on edge and anxious all the time? Has something bad happened, and you just don’t know what to do? Maybe things just feel “off” and you’d like to figure out how to get back to yourself again. Do you feel down and depressed, have trouble sleeping, low motivation, or feelings of hopelessness? These, and more, are some of the issues I hope to help you with.
I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor. In my career, have worked in community mental health and private practice settings providing individual, couples, family, and group therapy. Currently, I primarily work with young adults and adults. I have experience working with people struggling with depression, anxiety, trauma, and life transitions, among a vast array of issues and disorders. I have an affinity towards helping others with poor self-worth, women’s issues, and relationship struggles. I also pride myself on being a size-friendly provider and advocate for social change around Health at Every Size and Body Positive/Accepting perspectives. I also identify as an ally to the LGBTQIA+ community.
I work on a foundation of empathy, kindness, and authenticity. My work as a counselor begins with hearing your story, learning what makes you unique, and what your hopes are for attending therapy. It takes time to build a strong foundation of trust and openness, so in the first few sessions, we will spend time getting to know each other, setting goals, and getting past the simple fact that we are two strangers embarking on a journey together. As Fritz Perls states in his Gestalt Prayer: “You are you, and I am I, and if by chance we find each other, it's beautiful.” I believe it is important to explore our behavior, thoughts, and emotions, to live a life that honors our core values and most authentic, genuine selves. I also enjoy integrating psychoeducation, creative problem solving, expressing self and emotion for finding ways to overcome the hurdles we experience in life. I often utilize humor, analogies, and metaphors and the occasional pop-culture reference.
Therapy can be a lot like life itself; it can be wonderful, and it can be hard. Either way, I believe that what gets us to the big and small wonders of life is enduring, learning, and growing from the difficult times. I believe everyone has the ability to find the answers and changes we seek, but we often need some support, encouragement, and help along the way. I hope we can work together to reach a better, healthier, and happier place in your life.
